Record Retention Guide

Firm Policy

The firm is committed to maintaining and protecting client documentation with the highest level of care. Because the firm does not provide attest or compilation services, the practice is not subject to the mandatory five-year retention requirement defined by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy (TSBPA) for those specific engagements.

Approach to Documentation

For services such as tax preparation, consulting, and general accounting, the firm aligns document retention policies with guidelines provided by the Internal Revenue Service and other relevant regulatory authorities. This ensures that financial data is handled securely and remains accessible when needed.

Client Access to Records

Transparency and responsiveness are fundamental to client service. The following standards apply regarding file management:

  • Return of Original Records: Any original documents provided to the firm – such as bank statements or tax forms – will be returned promptly upon request, and no later than 10 business days, at no charge
  • Requesting Copies of Issued Documents: Copies of documents previously issued by the firm, such as a filed tax return, will be provided upon request; a reasonable fee may be applied for this administrative service
  • Access to Work Papers: Work papers developed by the firm are generally considered the property of the firm. However, any work papers that contain information constituting part of the client’s underlying books and records, and which are not otherwise available to the client, will be provided upon request; a reasonable fee may be applied for this service
